Ballarat and Stamford looks good together.

Collaborator of Stamford College - University of Ballarat, came to pay a visit their partner on the 21st of April 2011 at Jalan Barat campus. One of the professor from Ballarat even held a speech just for the students to prepare for their future. By night, their visit were well appreciated with dinner by prepared by Stamford. By all means, the bond between Ballarat and Stamford seems inevitable.

The Indian Cultural Society of Stamford has done a Ponggal festival at Jalan 223 Campus on 18th of January 2011. The staffs and students of Stamford all gathered to celebrate the occasion. Prominences group of Stamford also attend to brighten up the occasion. It is a pinnacle steps for all Stamfordians to 'breaking the ice' and mingle around with the people around as being a part of Stamford College.

MGMT in Malaysia.

It was a ‘Flash Delirium’ of fans, all expressing their love for MGMT on 25th March, Friday night at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Indoor Arena. The psychedelic rock band from Connecticut, USA gave Kuala Lumpur a show to store in our memory banks for ‘Future Reflections’. They played their sing-along smash hit ‘Kids’ along with other crowd faves like ‘Weekend Wars’, ‘Pieces of What’, ‘Siberian Breaks’ and others. 


 

Stamford's Media Student in Finas

The Diploma in Media and Communications students attended a week of training on the finer aspects of broadcasting, including TV and film production on Monday 4 April 2011. Nine students from Stamford, together with the lecturer, Encik Hadi and Mr Devaraj Arul were at hand to meet with the trainer, the vastly experienced Encik Hafsham (third from the left), who has been in the film industry for over 50 years.

“This training at FINAS really augments our classroom lectures. We were given the opportunity to handle equipment used to shoot films and documentaries, besides being shown how news reports are compiled and broadcast over TV. It was really a fantastic experience,” said Kennedy, a trainee.

The training at FINAS is for a period of 5 days and is intended to give Media students hands on practical knowledge on a broad range of aspects involving broadcasting and TV and film production.

Limelight competition at Stamford Barat

Limelight competition held on 27th April 2011 at Stamford Jalan Barat. It is a singing competition with the main purpose to raise fund for the Tsunami and Earthquake that hit Japan. Limelight was a successful event hosted by the semester one of from diploma of mass communication. The lecturer in charge was Ms.Rabiah Adawiah.

Launching of the Malysian Book "Understanding The Dewan Rakyat"

IN January 2010, The Nut Graph embarked on an ambitious project: to ask all 222 Members of Parliament (MPs) their views on various issues of national interest. MPs were asked, among others, their opinions on the Internal Security Act, whether Malaysia should be an Islamic or secular state, and what they believed their roles as MPs were. A total of 113 MPs replied and the results of the MP Watch: Eye on Parliament.project have now been compiled in a book titled Understanding The Dewan Rakyat.

The book was produced in collaboration with the Malaysian Bar Council’s constitutional law committee through its My Constitution campaign, and launched by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia on 23 Mar 2011. Other than the MPs’ responses, it also contains chapters on how Parliament works, the speaker’s functions and powers, and analyses of the MPs’ answers.

When addressing guests at the launch, the book’s co-editor Deborah Loh said she hoped that the book would help to refocus political debate on substantive issues. She also said the book would be a guide for voters, journalists, analysts, political parties and MPs, especially with the next general election expected to be called soon.

The MP Watch project and the book were supported by the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation. The book  is published by ZI Publications Sdn Bhd and will be available at major book stores on a limited print run from mid-April. The book is 564 pages long and will cost RM95.

Bungy jumping to feature as the best attraction ever..!

ADRENALINE junkies and extreme sports enthusiasts will have an added thrill to look forward to soon, when bungy jumping makes its home here with Malaysia’s first permanent bungy jump attraction at Sunway Lagoon.
The attraction is a collaboration between Sunway Lagoon and world-renowned operator of gravity defying activities, the AJ Hackett International Group.
Jumpers will get to experience the thrilling free-fall from a towering 22m above the water, which is equivalent to the height of an eight- to nine-storey building.

They will have the option of a “water touch”, whereby they can touch the surface of the man-made lake below before they are recovered via an inflatable raft.
The bungy jump platform will be set on the world’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, near Sunway Lagoon’s Extreme Park.
Sunway Lagoon CEO Aaron Soo was among the first jumpers during a recent trial bungy jumping session.
He revealed that he had already psyched himself up before his jump, and had no phobia whatsoever due to his platform diving experience during his schooldays.
“There was some initial anxiety and concern, considering that this was my first time bungy jumping.

“However, the AJ Hackett personnel were very professional and thorough, and with my safety assured, I felt comfortable jumping off,” Soo said, adding that he felt no jerks or pain during the jump.
While acknowledging a bungy jump accident that happened in Sunway Lagoon sometime back, Soo stressed that his biggest concern was the visitors’ safety.
“That is why we’re working with AJ Hackett International, the original bungy jumping company that has recorded over two million jumps worldwide without any major incidents,” he said.
AJ Hackett International business development manager Graham Whorskey said the purpose of his visit was to test the jump and sort out the necessary mechanics.
“We need to work out a platform to jump off from and the dinghy for the rescue (after the jump is completed.
“Jumpers will have the option of doing it the traditional way (using ankle attachment, with body harness as backup) or the alternative (with body harness strapped around the waist).”
He explained that there were different cords used in bungy jumping with different amounts of rubber.

“The cord with a stronger rubber can accommodate a heavier weight. We can build cords that can accommodate up to 200kg!” said Whorskey, who has been in the business for more than 20 years and has bungy jumped more than 3,000 times.
Also present was Bungy Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director Richard Tankersley, whose company handles the Malaysian operations of the AJ Hackett International Group.
The staff of Bungy Malaysia will undergo rigorous training at AJ Hackett International’s premises in Bali on all aspects of safety and operations before running the attraction at Sunway Lagoon.
Soo said bungy jumping would be open to the public when all the necessary tests were completed and relevant permits acquired, which he estimated to be in three to six months’ time.
Though the average market price is US$100 (about RM350) for a jump about 40m high, Soo gave an assurance that a market test would be done and the attraction would be offered at a price that visitors could afford.
Although there is no minimum age, Whorskey said children under 10 years were generally not allowed to bungy jump.
“We will most likely open it to visitors aged 11 years and above. People with a heart condition, fear of heights, or are pregnant are not advised to try it,” Soo said.

Salesgirl molested by deformed man

Bandar Baru Belekong: A lame leg, a deformed left hand and a cross-eyed look. We would be forgiven for thinking, upon being told of a crime involving such a person, that he was the victim.
Not so. In this instance at least, the physically challenged man was the predator.

The man, said to be in his 40s or 50s, molested a 23-year-old salesgirl from Bandar Baru Belekong, here, on Sunday.

The woman was alone in a textile shop when the man approached her.

Producing a welfare card, he asked for a donation.
After she had given him RM5, he struck up a conversation with the woman and persuaded her to sit next to him.

He performed a coin trick before touching the victim's right thigh. He then touched her near the groin before grabbing her buttocks.

As the man got up to leave, he rubbed her abdomen, saying she would give birth to twins. That's when she realised she had been taken advantage of. She later lodged a police report. 

New Era College senate head punched while giving speech

KAJANG: What started out as a happy event turned chaotic at the New Era College convocation.

A man went up to the stage as college senate chairman Dr Yap Sin Tian was giving a speech and punched him in the face in front of 500 people, including students, parents and guests.

However, the attacker managed to flee the scene.

Dr Yap, who is Dong Zong (the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia) president, was ushered to a seat with a fractured cheekbone and nose. An ambulance arrived later to send him to the Kajang Specialist Hospital.

College principal Mok Soon Choong took over the podium to continue the speech and calmed the situation.

Witnesses said the attacker wore a shirt used by members of a fund-raising event in the college. The man has been identified as a former college graduate.

Dong Jiao Zong Education Centre directors, who were seated near the stage, tried to catch him but he managed to escape.

It is unclear if the attack is linked to an ongoing squabble between Dr Yap and the college’s former principal Dr Kua Kia Soong.

Dr Yap had supported Dong Zong when it did not extend Dr Kua’s contract which expired in December.

The Dong Jiao Zong has made a police report on the attack.

College officials said they would conduct their own investigation.

In Penang, MCA vice-president Datuk Liow Tiong Lai expressed regret over the attack.

“It is sad to see such an incident happening in an educational body. Any problem should be settled without the use of violence,” he said.

Sex sold at food court

FOREIGN women have been using food courts in Jalan Gelang, off Jalan Loke Yew, in Kuala Lumpur to solicit for sex.

A Sin Chew Daily special investigative team discovered that the women also walk the streets to look for potential customers.

The women bring their customers to nearby flats to have sex.

Each “session” costs customers between RM100 and RM150, regardless of the woman’s age, the daily reported.

According to a resident at the flat, the women begin their “business” from noon to 6am every day.

Most of the women seen during the day were middle-aged while the young ones appeared at night.

The resident alleged that a group of men, believed to be plainclothes policemen, would raid the streets several times a month and round up the foreigners.

“But the women always return after a few days,” he said.

Enforcement officers seize 'Viagra coffee'

KUALA LUMPUR: A direct-selling company marketed a coffee mixture with a secret ingredient which guaranteed to "perk up" drinkers.

The secret ingredient was sildenafil, more popularly known as Viagra.

Enforcement officers from the Health Ministry recently raided the direct-selling company in Gombak.

A medical examination is required, along with a doctor's recommendation, before men who are suffering from erectile dysfunction are allowed to purchase sildenafil or Viagra.

A ministry spokesman said: "The coffee mixture had been distributed in sachets nationwide.

"Officers found 900 boxes containing more than 9,000 sachets of the coffee mixture which retailed for more than RM80 per box."

The company used individuals to distribute the product in small quantities to evade detection by authorities, he said.

"Investigations revealed that the distributor attempted to mislead the public by claiming that the coffee mixture could provide an energy boost, besides being beneficial for men," the spokesman said.

If a coffee mixture is sold at a higher than normal price then it is almost certain to contain the sildenafil.

"A coffee mixture containing the dangerous chemical is sold for between RM5 and RM10 per sachet compared with coffee mixtures which retail for between RM1 and RM2 per sachet," the spokesman said.

Sildenafil is a controlled substance because of the dangers it poses to those suffering from heart ailments and high blood pressure.

Those who consume sildenafil without a doctor's prescription run the risk of headaches, stomach aches, hearing loss, vision impairment and muscle pain.

KidZania Kuala Lumpur at The Curve

KidZania Kuala Lumpur at The Curve in Petaling Jaya is set to open by the middle of 2011. Known as an Educational Theme Park for Kids, this 80000 square feet theme park will be the talk of town and the place to bring your kids for an adventure of a lifetime. EWith this sponsorship, each company will be committed to funding the development and display of several lifelike and child-sized fixtures of their respective business operations at the theme park. 

For parents with kids, this is going to be the ultimate play land for your children. Make sure you bring your kids here once it opens and rest assured, there will be a massive crowd there for at least a few months after opening. I can only imagine this place on the weekends. For those who have more than 2 kids, best to start saving now as this place will be addictive! Kids these days are so fortunate that there are so many kids activities to do in PJ/KL. Back in the day, we simply used to hang out at the padang (playground). This is an excellent chance to shower your kids with fun and excitement at KidZania Kuala Lumpur at the Curve.

DO NOT entertain or approach any durian seller whom you do not know at all,
especially pasar malam, an event which they move from one place to another ....

Personally, I had a similar experience at Raju's in Petaling Jaya
sometime early this year, 2010.
As we had finished our roti canai at Raju's, a "decent" looking youth
came up to me with a durian with a "window" opened to show a nice and tempting durian
fleshinside. Yummy, so I thought.
He led me to this van half-filled with durians and promptly told his
burly buddy that this boss (that's me) wanted to buy. This fellow just picked a huge durian and proceeded to open it.
Then in quick succession, he had already opened 3 fruits. I frantically stopped him and said that I actually wanted one only. The usual concluding statement from him was, "What am I going to do with these 3opened durians ?"
I asked how much?
He answered, "RM280.00"!!
I uttered, "That's robbery."
Sensing that I had just been conned and cornered, I said sternly that
I am only willing to pay
RM120.00 max for the durians.
To cut the long story short, I settled for RM200.00
